Smallpox Vaccine Discovered 1796
A physician in Gloucestershire, Edward Jenner noticed that many of his cattle and dairy farmer patients didn't contract smallpox. He deduced that exposure to cowpox, a less threatening disease, gave immunity to smallpox. The discovery helped spread what Jenner referred to as a vaccine (from the Latin vacca for cow) to England and beyond. That's an agricultural contribution!
